Bishop Michael, celebrates the 39th anniversary of his ordination to the holy priesthood on Saturday, February 4th.  We pray that our all-merciful Lord will grant peace, health, salvation, and furtherance in all good things to our Spiritual Shepherd and Archpastor.  Eis polla eti despota!  Many years!
  • Orthodox Scout Sunday: 5 February 2012

    The Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of the Americas [website here] has designated Sunday, 5 February, as “Orthodox Scout Sunday.”  Through the Eastern Orthodox Committee on Scouting, the Assembly and its predecessor -- SCOBA -- have been actively supporting both the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of the USA since the 1960’s.

  • 2nd Annual Altar Servers Retreat: 24-26 February 2012
    The Annual Altar Server Retreat will take place at Saint Basil’s Academy in Garrison NY, featuring beautiful grounds, dormitory style rooms, indoor basketball court and Olympic-size indoor swimming pool which will be available for use.  There is no charge to participate in the 3-day retreat.  Bishop Michael, who has blessed this event, will be present for the entire retreat.
  • World Day of Orthodox Youth: February 2012

    With the blessing of Bishop Michael, we will celebrate the World Day of Orthodox Youth in our diocese throughout the month of February.  The proposal for a World Day of Orthodox Youth was made by the XIV SYNDESMOS ("the World Fellowship of Orthodox Youth") General Assembly in June 1992, and has received the blessing of His All-Holiness (Ecumenical Patriarch) Bartholomew and the hierarchs of other local Orthodox Churches.

  • DDB Appreciation Dinners Scheduled
    Appreciation Dinners for 2011 Distinguished Diocesan Benefactors, hosted by Bishop Michael, are scheduled for the three diocesan deaneries (New Jersey, New York City, and New York State).  They are intended to provide an opportunity to show gratitude and foster fellowship among the DDBs for their generosity in supporting the three initiatives: Support for Missions, Support for Seminarians, and Support for Parishes. Information about the DDB Program and an invitation to “join the effort” in 2012 is available here!
  • East Meadow NY: New Senior Program
    Nearly a dozen senior members of Holy Trinity Orthodox Church (East Meadow NY) gathered for fellowship on Tuesday, 17 January 2012.  They were served a home-cooked meal courtesy the parish’s Sisterhood organization, and spent a couple hours in fellowship playing games. The morning gathering was designed as a way to bring long-time members back together in a very familiar setting.

  • Committee for Financial Affairs Meets
    The Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops’ Committee for Financial Affairs met in person on November 16, 2011 at St Sophia’s Orthodox Seminary in South Bound Brook, NJ, hosted by Archbishop Antony, Ukrainian Orthodox Church in the USA, and Chairman of the Committee. Bishop Matthias, Orthodox Church in America, the other hierarch member of the Committee, was unfortunately unable to attend.
  • Record of Protest Against the Infringement of Religious Liberty by HHS
    The Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of North and Central America, which is comprised of the 65 canonical Orthodox bishops in the United States, Canada and Mexico, join their voices with the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops and all those who adamantly protest the recent decision by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, and call upon all the Orthodox Christian faithful to contact their elected representatives today to voice their concern in the face of this threat to the sanctity of the Church’s conscience.

  • Semi-Annual Committee for Youth Meeting
    The Committee for Youth of the Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops of North and Central America held its semi-annual meeting on January 24th and 25th, 2012. The meeting convened at the Antiochian Village Heritage and Learning Center, Bolivar, PA, in conjunction with the Committee for Youth’s Consultants Meeting and was followed by the annual Camp and Youth Worker Conference (January 25-28, 2012).
  • Committee for Canonical Regional Planning Meets
    The Assembly of Canonical Orthodox Bishops' Committee on Canonical Regional Planning met in-person on Friday, January 27, 2012, at the headquarters of the Romanian Orthodox Archdiocese in Chicago, Illinois, hosted by Archbishop Nicolae, Chairman of the Committee.
  • Scout Sunday 2012
    Bishop Daniel, of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA and Episcopal Liaison to the Eastern Orthodox Committee on Scouting (EOCS), encourages Orthodox Christians to support National Scout Sunday on February 5.
