RITES - (Sl. chin) (1) Forms of worship, music, vestments, and architecture. Most Orthodox Christians follow the liturgical practice of the ancient Churches in the east (Antioch, Jerusalem, and Alexandria), the rite commonly known as the Liturgy of St. John Chrysostom. However, some Orthodox follow a Western Rite, forms that developed in the west before the separation of Rome from the Orthodox Church.? (2) The words to be said and actions to be done in performing a religious ceremany: the rite of burial, blessing of a new home, or blessing of a new church.
